I am thinking it must goe directly into the cluster, but i cannot find a detailed diagram of it in the haynes manual. Yj wrangler dash panel parts are vehicle specific, so make certain you have the right part by talking with jeep experts at 4wd.

The speedometer receives a signal over what is called the can bus system. There is a white and orange wire going into the cluster, but also one going into the ecu. The dash will not work with the stock gauges since these are all on one circuit board.
